Question:
What is Ghost Recon?

Answer:
In Ghost Recon, you lead the Ghosts, an elite American infantry unit using the most advanced technology the United States has to offer, onto the front lines and into battle. The Ghosts are the spearhead of the United States Army’s quick response. They are the first unit deployed into dangerous situations and the last ones to leave when things get rough. As the leader of a platoon of Ghosts in the field, it is your responsibility to select your fire team members, train them, kit them out, and command them once the shooting starts. You control them as they seek to execute your orders, which you give during the heat of battle, and complete their missions.

The game consists of a series of 15 missions along a single storyline, which forms a campaign. While many of the gameplay elements of Ghost Recon may seem familiar if you have played Rainbow Six or Rogue Spear, it is an entirely new game in an entirely new setting. If you've played Rogue Spear or Rainbow Six, prepare yourself for the next step in squad-based tactical games.

Question:

What other Platforms with Ghost Recon be released on?

Answer:
Redstorm and Ubi Soft are planning for an Xbox release in addition to the PC release. Expect the same style of gameplay that you will come to love from the PC version on the Xbox version.

Question:
What are the minimum system requirements?

Answer:

  • CPU - Pentium II 450 MHz processor or equivalent

  • Memory - 128 MB of RAM

  • Operating System - Windows 9X/ME/2000/XP

  • DirectX - DirectX 8.0 or higher (included on CD)

  • Video Card - 16MB DirectX 8.0 compatible 3D card

  • Drive Space - 1GB minimum hard drive space

  • CD-ROM - 4X or better

  • Sound Card - DirectX 8.0 compatible sound card

  • Internet/Network - TCP/IP connection at 28.8 KBPS or faster

  • Question:
How many people can I have on my server in Ghost Recon?

    Answer:
You can host up to 36 people on your server. This also all depends on what type of connection you have and what you can handle.

    Question:
As a Ghost Recon Operative can you ride or control a vehicle?

    Answer:
Players will not be able to directly control vehicles in the game. However, you will get vehicles that help you out, and move along with you in addition to those out to stop you.

    Question:
Will Ghost Recon allow 3rd person view while playing? While in Spectator mode

    Answer:
Third person and cinematic camera modes are available, however, the player will only be able to access them when observing in multiplayer games, or watching a replay. In addition, if the player is playing the game through observer mode (letting the AI do all the work, while they set the plans in motion), he will be able to switch to different camera views.

    Question:
Will there be C4, c4, satchel charge, etc.?

    Answer:
A claymore mine is provided in the game for just such an emergency.

    Question:
Is there a built in voice command like Roger Wilco, or Battle Com etc.?

    Answer:
No, there is no built-in voice communication at this time.

    Question:
Will the game have realistic wound textures when shot?

    Answer:
There are wound textures in the game. However, no body parts will be flying off of bodies. Users expecting a high level of gore should look elsewhere. There are a lot of death animation's when people so that also adds to the realism.

    Question:
How do I tell apart the terrorist from the GR Ops? Will there be something else?

    Answer:
When you move your reticule over a player it will display the player's name if you are aiming at a friendly that is within identifiable range. If the friendly is too far away for ID to work, it won't change color. So if there is an "opponent" that is coming close to you and NO ID tag is displayed, then they are probably the enemy and you need to shoot, before your being shot at.

    Question:
Will there be any sound enhancements found in the new Creative Audigy sound card?

    Answer:
No, Redstorm and Ubi Soft received the Audigy too late in the development process for them to take advantage of EAX 3.0. It's a good bet that future products will, though. But rest assured that the EAX 2.0 effects have been given a good boost based on lessons we learned from Rogue Spear and Urban Operations.

    Question:
What has been done to prevent cheating?

    Answer:
Redstorm or Ubi Soft would rather not go into specifics; that would just make the cheaters' jobs easier. Since Ghost Recon runs on a multitasking operating system and the user has control of the client computer, they understand that it is impossible to completely prevent cheating. However, they have taken steps above and beyond those found in Rogue Spear/Urban Operations to make it more difficult to cheat. The best way to ensure a cheat-free game is to play on a server you trust with other players you trust.

    Question:
    Will there be dedicated servers?

    Answer:
Yes! Check out Ubi.com for details.
