Conclusion:
There are several points I wanted to cover in the conclusion of
this review.
The tests, and conclusions in this review are subjective tests,
they are not based on an objective benchmark like you would see
in a video card review. The experience and opinions of the device
held by different people will vary, as such I recommend either purchasing
a unit from the store and using it temporarily to try it, or reading
some of the other reviews posted on the web to get a better feel
for what the consensus opinion of the device is.
I really enjoy using the mouse because it does feel that is fits
in my hand perfectly. As I remember the Optical is a bit smaller
than both of the Explorers, so it took me some time to get used
to the Explorer and how it functioned. One thing I was sadden to
see was that the 4th and 5th buttons are located on the thumb side
of the mouse, unlike how the Optical has one on each side of the
device. I use these buttons for copy/paste and prefer the two-sided
button layout of the Optical.
If you take the Wireless Explorer in one hand, and the Optical
in the other, you will notice a big difference in the way the both
feel in your hand, and how the mice fit in your hand. The Optical
is both a left and right handed mouse, while the Wireless Explorer
is only currently made for right handed people, thus making it very
comfortable to use because if feels like it was deigned for you
(assuming you're right handed of course).
So now the real question is. "Should I upgrade my mouse if
I already have an Explorer, or Optical?" My answer is not a
definite yes, or no. I will say no for the reason that why upgrade
on the new mouse after you paid 45-70 dollars for your new Explorer,
or Optical? It is a great mouse still and yet you can upgrade your
software and it will have some of the same new technologies at the
Wireless Explorer.
The reason I would say yes to an upgrade is if you are in need
of something wireless, or you just want better comfort when gaming.
The thing I would watch out for is if you do get the Wireless is
test out all your software abilities, and tweak the mouse so it
runs just as good as your old mouse. For me I think the $80.00 is
a bit high for a mouse, but if you're a gung-ho gamer, or hardware
guy like me, then you will want to get your hands on all the new
toys.
Lastly I wanted to thank Gabrielle from Microsoft for giving 3d
Retreat, and myself the chance to preview/review the Wireless IntelliEye
Explorer. Thank you for your help, and support Gabrielle.
You can buy the Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer mouse throught Microsofts
online store here.
